New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday released his party's manifesto for the April 23 municipal corporation elections, which promises to make the national capital clean and free from dengue, chikungunya.
Stressing on cleanliness, the AAP chief said promised to make the city free of vector-borne diseases in three years. The AAP manifesto also promised to simplify rules to end rampant corruption in the civic bodies.
Arvind Kejriwal also announced several lucrative schemes for sanitation workers and their families, promising uninterrupted salary disbursal on 7th day of every month.
According to reports, Kejriwal's party is contesting the civic polls on a full scale for the first time in the national capital.
AAP aims to wrest power from the BJP, which is ruling at the Centre and has controlled the three municipal corporations in the city for past 10 years.
AAP had made an ‘impressive’ debut in the municipal bypolls last year as it won five of the 13 wards where elections were held.
One of the biggest highlights of the AAP’s election manifesto for Delhi MCD polls are waiving house tax against all residential properties.
Kejriwal had earlier already announced to waive house tax against all residential properties during a rally in Delhi's Burari.
AAP sources had earlier hinted that the manifesto will focus on sanitation workers, who have repeatedly gone on strike over the past two years over delay in salary payment and arrears.
“AAP is including major demand of safai karmcharis such as guaranteed salary payment by seventh of every month, regualrisation of contractual staff besides providing free health insurance to all sanitation workers,” a party leader was quoted as saying.
With maintaining cleanliness and hygeine in the city being the core job of the civic bodies, the manifesto also outlines a detailed roadmap on construction of toilets and urinals across the city.
