New Delhi: Delhi University student Gurmehar Kaur, who got death and rape threats after her campaign against the ABVP, has been provided "adequate security", police said on Tuesday.

A day after the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) wrote to Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik over the threats to Kaur, the police slapped a a First Information Report.

On Monday, DCW forwarded a complaint of the Lady Shri Ram College student regarding the online abuse. The Deputy Commissioner of Police of the area then spoke to her and provided necessary security, the police said.

Joint Commissioner of Police Dependra Pathak told IANS that the FIR had been filed under section 67 of the IT Act and sections 354 A (sexual harassment) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.

Kaur complained to the DCW against the online threats she got since taking on the RSS-affiliated Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad.

Kaur posted on her Facebook: "I am a student of Delhi University. I am not afraid of ABVP. I am not alone. Every student of India is with me."
