Panic gripped the Delhi`s Azadpur metro station, a CISF jawan fired in the air to disperse a violent crowd that had gathered after a scuffle broke out between two groups in the metro premises.
New Delhi: Panic gripped Delhi's Azadpur metro station after a CISF jawan fired in the air to disperse a violent crowd after a scuffle broke out between two groups in the metro premises.
The incident took place on Monday evening.
As per a report, two men entered into an argument at the ticket counter after which a violent clash took place.
A CISF personnel deployed at the station brought the two to the control room and asked them to pay a fine for creating trouble, officials told reporters. However, one of them, a 17-year-old resident of Wazirpur industrial area, called his associates to the station.
Almost 20 people arrived at the station soon and allegedly beat up Delhi Police constable ML Meena, who was taking the two to the Kashmere Gate police station.
The miscreants grabbed the collar of CISF Assistant Sub-Inspector Mohammed Umar, who had to fire in the air to control the crowd. The situation at the station was chaotic.
Metro rail services, however, remained interrupted, officials added.
A few people were detained and examined in connection with the scuffle.
Meanwhile, senior CISF officials and the Delhi Police are examining CCTV footage of the incident.
