Essar Group Co-Founder Shashi Ruia Dies At 80 After Prolonged Illness
Ruia was receiving treatment in the US and returned about a month ago.
NewDelhi: Essar Group co-founder Shashi Ruia passed away after a prolonged illness in Mumbai. He was 80.
Ruia died on November 25 around 23.55 hrs in Mumbai, family sources said.
Ruia was receiving treatment in the US and returned about a month ago. His mortal remains will be kept at Ruia House from 1 pm to 3 pm on Tuesday. The funeral procession will depart from Ruia House at 4 pm and head to the Hindu Worli Crematorium.
Ruia is survived by his wife Manju and two sons Prashant and Anshuman.
Ruia, a first-generation industrialist and entrepreneur, started his career in 1965 under his father, Nand Kishore Ruia. In 1969, he and his brother Ravi built an outer breakwater at Chennai Port, laying the foundation for the metals-to-technology giant Essar. The group diversified into several industries, such as construction, telecom, power, oil refining, steel, and exploration and production.
