New Delhi: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) submitted its evaluation criteria for Class 12 board exams before the Supreme Court on Thursday (June 17).
A bench of Justices AM Khanwilkar and Dinesh Maheshwari was told by Attorney General K K Venugopal that students will be evaluated on a 30:30:40 formula on the basis of performance in Class 10, Class 11 and Class 12 respectively.
CBSE told the top court that for Class 12, marks obtained in unit, term and practicals will be taken into account while marking the students. For Class 10 and 11, marks in best of 3 from 5 term, papers will be considered.
Venugopal told the bench that the declaration of results will be done by July 31, 2021.
CBSE told the Supreme Court that the Class XII results will be decided on the basis of performance in Class 10 (30% weightage), Class 11 (30% weightage) & Class 12 (40% weightage).

He added that each school has to form a result committee to consider the marks of students obtained in the three examinations which would be vetted by the moderation committee of the CBSE. Venugopal said that a moderation committee is likely to be formed to look after the difference in marking mechanism adopted by various schools to put all students as far as the awarding of final marks for class 12 is concerned, ANI reported.
Students who are not satisfied with the marks/grading through the proposed mechanism will be given a chance to appear in physical examinations, which will be held as per the COVID-19.
As per IANS report, a 12-member committee of experts, including Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Education and senior IAS officer Vipin Kumar, prepared the formula for giving results and marks for the students.
On June 1, the Centre had cancelled the CBSE Class 12 board examinations in view of the prevailing COVID-19 pandemic. Following the cue, CISCE also scrapped the board exams for class 12 students.
