NEW DELHI: In a first, the Human Resource and Development (HRD) Ministry's National Institutional Ranking Framework released a ranking of top medical colleges in the country. As per the data, All India Institute of Medical Sciences in Delhi holds the top spot followed by Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research in Chandigarh and Christian Medical College in Vellore at the second and third spots respectively. Kasturba Medical College in Manipal and King George's Medical University in Lucknow hold the fourth and the fifth spot.

The rankings for 2018 were released by the HRD Ministry on Tuesday. While the Indian Institute of Science (IISC) in Bengaluru was adjudged the overall best institution in the country, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)-Madras and Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad topped in the engineering category and management categories.

Along with medical colleges, it was the also the first time that architecture and law colleges were ranked by the ministry. Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT)-Kharagpur and National Law School of India University in Bengaluru topped in the architecture and law categories, respectively. Among the top 10 institutes in the overall category are IISC, six IITs in Madras, Bombay, Delhi, Kharagpur, Kanpur and Roorkee, JNU, BHU and Anna University in Chennai.
