New Delhi, Aug 17: LG Electronics India plans to enter the GSM mobile handset market by selling imported sets in the country, with the government already according it permission to carry out cash and carry stocking and sales of such phones. The Korean major will also undertake "adequate" marketing activities including sales promotions and extensive advertisements, sources said here today.
"After successful manufacturing and marketing of CDMA products in India and looking forward to the expectations from Indian consumers for the LG GSM phones, LG Electronics India Ltd now intends to enter the GSM handsets market in India," the company said in its application to the government.
With the progress of time, the consumer will look for both GSM and CDMA phones under one roof, it said adding the company will use its existing network for after-sales service.
LGEIL also plans to develop a nationwide network of more than 120 authorised service centres and collection centres for the GSM handset servicing.
"To communicate the benefits of LG handsets to the people and educate them, LG will do adequate marketing activities like advertisement and other promotional activities," the company added.
