Srinagar, July 04: Four militants and three security personnel were among nine people killed in Jammu and Kashmir, where troops foiled an infiltration bid since last night, an official spokesman said today. Noticing a group of ultras sneaking into this side of the LoC, troops challenged them. The ultras opened fire forcing the troops to retaliate.

Simultaneously, Pakistani troops also started cross-border firing. The militants escaped towards the Pakistani side under the cover provided by firing by Pakistani troops, but two of them were killed and their bodies were lying on the other side, he said.

Two army jawans were injured in the encounter and one of them succumbed to injuries, the spokesman said. A Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) ultra, Abdul Sattar alias Gulshan of Karachi, and a BSF jawan were killed in a gunfight at Check-i-Ashguza in Pulwama district last night, he said.

The slain ultra's associates escaped. An AK rifle, five magazines, one under-barrel grenade launcher five grenades and 120 rounds were recovered from the scene of the encounter.

In another encounter at Kowatch village in Doda district last night, a Harkat-ul-Jehad-e-Islami militant and a jawan were killed. Another ultra was injured in the encounter but escaped. Two AK assault rifles, a grenade launcher, 11 grenades and some ammunition were recovered during the operation, he said. Militants shot dead a former special police officer at Ayatmullah in Baramulla district today and a government teacher inside his house in Mohalla locality of Sogam in Kupwara last night, he added.
