India continues winning streak, reach quarter-finals
Chennai, July 09: The Indian volleyball team continued its winning streak, demolishing Australia 3-0, while Russia beat Iran with an identical margin in the matches to decide the rankings of countries in the quarter-finals of the boys (U-19) world championship in Bangkok today.

After creating history by finishing among the first eight
positions, and topping group-c, winning all their three
matches, Indian boys needed just 65 minutes for their straight
games win against the tall and well built Australians 25-17
25-17 25-14.
According to coach, G E Sridharan, the players with their "morale high after the team's stupendous performance in the first stage of the world championship, played an attacking game from the beginning. There was total coordination among all the players and the team led all the way in all the three sets against the Aussies."
"It is the greatest moment for Indian volleyball. The team's performance has made the coaches and players of the other teams sit up and I hope, my boys will keep up their momentum," he said.
Russia defeated Iran 25-23 25-23 25-16.
The draw of lots will be taken tomorrow for the quater-finals, which commences on July 11.
India, Russia, Australia and Iran join Puerto Rico, Czech Republic, Brazil and Thailand in the last eight.
In the first stage of the championship, India defeated Poland 3-2 (24-25, 18-25, 26-24, 25-20, 25-14), outplayed Czech Republic 3-0 (25-20, 25-15, 25-17) and shocked Brazil 3-1 (25-1 25-21, 22-25, 25-20).
