New Delhi, Feb 26: Independent Rajya Sabha member Ram Jethmalani today met Congress president Sonia Gandhi and extended his support to the anti-BJP force in the coming Lok Sabha elections. Jethmalani, who once was a staunch critic of late prime minister Rajiv Gandhi during the Bofors controversy, spent more than 20 minutes at Gandhi's residence, discussing the present political situation.
Confirming the meeting, AICC spokesperson Jaipal Reddy said Jethmalani was offended by the ''maladministration of the NDA government'' and expressed his willingness to join hands with the secular forces.
Asked about the reverse stand of Jethmalani in regard to the Congress, Reddy said, ''politics is never frozen. Today the priority in politics is defeat of the communal forces. However, if there is any contradiction in his position taken in the past, it is for him to explain.''
Reddy said so far, there was no possibility of Jethmalani joining the Congress. ''The Congress president meets a lot of public figures and Jethmalani is an independent member of the Rajya Sabha and a champion of human rights , he said.
