Talking about women empowerment during a chat on radio station 92.7 BIG FM, Deepika said: “I don’t think we need a festival to celebrate womanhood. I believe that we need not look forward to Women’s Day, Navratri or any other festival to celebrate what women are all about.

“Women are multi-taskers, extremely strong emotionally and know what they are capable of. My message for every woman is that, we all should have faith in ourselves and should never underestimate our capabilities."

The actress, who will portray the role of Mastani in the forthcoming film “Bajirao Mastani”, had earlier come out in the open about having battled depression. Over the year, she has cemented her space in the Hindi film industry with films like "Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani", "Chennai Express" and "Piku"
