Shillong, Nov 09: BSF authorities today denied having received any report from their Bangladesh counterpart on the alleged smuggling of arms from north eastern India to the neighbouring country. "At no point did the Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) submit a report on the smuggling of small arms from north east India to the neighbouring country during the recently concluded inspectors general border coordination meeting held at Shillong," a statement from the BSF frontier said here reacting to media reports that the BDR had submitted a report on smuggling of small arms from the northeastern region.
Denying having received any such report from its neighbouring counterpart, the statement further said "on the contrary", BSF had handed over a list of Indian insurgent camps in Bangladesh to the BDR, requesting them to take action against the extremists.
In fact, both the sides expressed "concern" over the "nexus" between criminal gangs of either country and resolved to contain the menace by sharing inputs and coordinated efforts, additional dig of the BSF's Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur and Nagaland frontier, M N Sajjan said in the statement.
Media reports here had said that during the BSF-BDR meet on October 22 last, the BDR team had submitted a `detailed report' on the smuggling of small arms from the north eastern region to Bangladesh, which alleged that BSF was turning a 'blind eye' to the 'growing menace' of arms smuggling from India to Bangladesh.
