New Delhi, Mar 30: In the backdrop of recent swoops on Indian IT professionals abroad, Nasscom will explore the possibility of serving as an "independent referral point" for embassies, with regard to the verification process for individuals applying for visa.
"Many countries require certain data to be provided when visa is applied for, and then check on that data. Nasscom can help embassies by serving as an independent referral point for verification of credentials of individuals applying for the visa. We will explore such a possibility," Nasscom president Kiran Karnik told here.
He said Nasscom could play an active role in becoming a part of the checking process and also help in verifying the same, in case of any doubt. Such a move, Karnik said, would also result in speeding-up the entire process.
"This would be the second stage of action. In the first phase we will continue our effort to strengthen dialogue between companies and embassies on understanding visa and work permit requirements," Karnik said.
Nasscom would also examine ways by which it could play a bigger role to facilitate co-ordination between the two sides, in order to ensure that companies get the right kind of visa and quickly.
"This is essential as sometimes there were long delays in procuring the visas," he said while asking the Indian industry to be careful in visa matters. Bureau Report
