A gangster owing allegiance to underworld don Chhota Rajan was killed in an encounter with police in Mumbai on Friday night. Acting on a tip-off that the gangster Mangesh Raghunath Shinde alias Sir would come to Bhangar Nagar in Goregaon in north Mumbai to kill a builder, police laid a trap.
On spotting the culprit on a two wheeler in the area around 8.15 pm, police asked him to surrender. However, he fired three rounds from his seven bore revolver at the police party, who returned fire in self defence, seriously injuring the gangster.
Shinde was rushed to cooper hospital where he was declared brought dead, police added.
He was wanted in seven serious offences relating to murder, extortion and attempt to murder.
