Kathmandu, July 16: Nepal will hold the first ever conference of non-resident Nepalese here in October with the aim of attracting NRNs investment and establishing a network among Nepali societies.
The conference would help NRNs identify investment opportunities and serve as a forum for interaction among the Nepalese communities around the world, Vinod Bahadur Shrestha, acting president of Federation of Nepalese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) said.
Being organized at the joint initiatives of Nepal government, FNCCI and NRN international coordination committee, the conference would see the participation of 300 NRNs. The four-day conference will start from October 8. The government is planning to introduce soon some financial regulations with a view to attract NRNs, joint secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Durga Bhattarai said.
The conference would help the government draft new acts that would address the problems being faced by NRNs, he added.
Convenor of the NRN international coordination committee Upendra Mahato said the government should simplify visa procedures, guarantee economic protection, make arrangements for dual passport system and simplify tax and other financial rules in order to attract investment from NRN. FDI will also follow after inflow of NRN money, he said adding the country's political situation is not a deterrent for the NRNs.
At present NRNs bring some one billion dollars, almost equivalent to the national budget to the country. Over 8 lakh NRNs are working in foreign nations including India.
