New Delhi, July 05: Punjab Governor O P Verma today met Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani here today in the midst of a political storm in the state over vigilance raids on former chief minister Parkash Singh Badal's properties. Verma, who met Advani for 20-minutes, told reporters later that he was not aware as to what evidence the Congress government had against Badal to carry out raids.
"I don't know why it is happening or what evidence the ruling Congress Party has," he said but declined to comment on a question whether the raids were a part of a "political witch-hunt".
Asked whether he would submit a report on the issue to the Centre, Verma said, "The question would arise when somebody asks for it. So far, nobody has asked for a report." He said Badal had submitted a memorandum to him and he had referred it to the concerned departments.

The raids by Punjab Vigilance Department over past 10 days has kicked up a political storm in the state with Badal alleging "political vendetta" against him and his family by Amarinder Singh government.

A few days back, Badal complained to Advani who thereafter criticised the Punjab government, saying it was improper and showed sheer intolerance on the part of state government towards the opposition.
Amarinder Singh, on the other hand, rubbished Badal's allegation and ignored Advani's remarks, saying the Vigilance Department was only acting against corruption. Bureau Report
