The anniversary of his death was on Friday and Blake took to Twitter to remember him, reports usmagazine.com.

"Wow... 25 years ago today we lost my brother Richie Shelton. He's still my hero going strong. Wish everyone could've known him," he wrote on the micro-blogging website.

Last year during an appearance on "60 Minutes", Blake said: "I remember picking up the phone... to call him, to tell him something I just saw on TV or, and it was like constantly a shock to me that he was dead."

Richie died in a car crash in 1990 at the age of 24. Blake was 14 years old at that time.

Richie's death had impacted the country star's life throughout the years and had inspired many of his songs as well as his ex-wife Miranda Lambert's.

"I asked him a year ago, 'Do you want this song? It's obviously about your life'. And he said he'd rather me have it, mainly because he wasn't sure he could get through it every night onstage. It's one of our favourite songs," Lambert said.
