Chamling for tribal status to Nepalis
Gangtok, Nov 08: Sikkim Chief Minister Pawan Chamling has said that the state government was making efforts to give tribal status to the majority Nepali community in the state.
Gangtok, Nov 08: Sikkim Chief Minister Pawan Chamling has said that the state government was making efforts to give tribal status to the majority Nepali community in the state.
The Chief Minister made this announcement at the inauguration of a small scale state-sponsored hydel project at Rabomchu in north Sikkim on Thursday.
He said efforts were also on to determine the quota of reserved assembly seats for Limboos and Tamangs who were accorded tribal status early this year.
Assuring that the state government was committed to protect the interests of each and every community, the Chief Minister asked them to be alert against forces out to disrupt communal harmony in the state.
