Mumbai, Dec 05: Curfew in the communal violence-hit Khamgaon town in Buldana district of Maharashtra would continue as a precautionary measure even though the situation is normal today, police said. "No fresh incident of violence was reported from anywhere. The situation is normal and under control. Curfew was relaxed for six hours today from 8 am to 2 pm to enable people to buy essentials," Khamgaon police said here.
However, curfew would continue till further orders as a precautionary measure, police added.
Curfew was clamped on Tuesday in Khamgaon, a major cotton trading centre of west Vidarbha, in the wake of communal violence shortly after a youth was injured after being hit by an autorickshaw. The accident led to heated arguments between the injured and the autorickshaw driver and soon supporters of both sides threw themselves into a clash, police said.
The mob resorted to stone pelting in which nine cops were injured. Police then cane-charged and opened fire in the air to quell the mob.
Security in sensitive areas of the district was stepped up, police added. Bureau Report
