Chennai, July 10: The arrest of MDMK chief and a NDA leader Vaiko under POTA appeared imminent on his return from Chicago on July 11 with the Tamil Nadu Police Chief B P Nailwal asserting that police would move to a court seeking a non-bailable warrant against him. Vaiko had been charged with making pro-LTTE remarks at a public meeting at Tirumangalam in Madurai district on June 29.
Asked whether the police would seek a NBW against Vaiko, Nailwal told reporters that "sure naturally".
Meanwhile, a highly placed police source told a news agency that the police had moved a court today at Tirumangalam seeking a NBW against Vaiko.
Even without a warrant Vaiko could be arrested, as the provisions of POTA had been invoked against him, the source said.

A judicial magistrate at Thirumangalam last night declined to issue NBW against Vaiko, but had issued NBWs against eight others, who were also named in the fir. All the eight were arrested by police and remanded to 30 days judicial custody today.
