New Delhi, Mar 28: A strong plea for handing over the reins of Congress in Uttar Pradesh to Priyanka Gandhi to save the organisation in the politically-significant state was made by delegates at a party convention here today. "Hand over the rein of party's power to Priyanka Gandhi in Uttar Pradesh for the elections," Vinay Mishra, district congress committee president of Mainpuri said at the National Convention of Bloc and District Presidents convened by party chief Sonia Gandhi. Mishra said in the wake of the present situation in the state and keeping in view the party's health, Priyanka should be given charge of the state to revive the party.
His plea came in the backdrop of party's defeat in the assembly bye-election in Gauriganj, which is a part of Amethi Lok Sabha constituency of Sonia Gandhi. Similar requests have been made on number of occasions by partymen to actively involve Priyanka and Rahul Gandhi in the running of the party affairs.
