New Delhi, Sept 25: CBI has asked former Uttar Pradesh Minister Amar Mani Tripathi, the main accused in the poetess Madhumita murder case, to undergo a lie detector test, to which he was reluctant so far.
The CBI sources said Tripathi had been asked to undergo the polygraphic test failing which the action (of not undergoing test) could be held against him.
Tripathi was arrested this Sunday after his DNA matched with the six-month old foetus of Madhumita.

CBI sources said the former up minister had not given any idea so far of whether he was interested in undergoing the test.
As per the law, any person could decline the offer of undergoing the lie detector test and the consent of the accused was mandatory for the test.

The sources said the possibility of the examination of Tripathi's wife, Mudhumani. (believed to be in Delhi) was not ruled out.

However, about the surrender application moved by her in a Lucknow court, the sources said a decision to this affect would be taken only after the CBI received a notified copy of the application.

About the questioning of Tripathi, the sources said Tripathi continued to grieve the sudden death of his uncle and aunt, who were murdered in Gorakhpur yesterday.

Tripathi is alleged to have hatched the conspiracy of the murder of Madhumita at her paper colony residence earlier this year.
