Immediately after his election, Reddy resigned as floor leader of the state assembly and senior member K Haribabu was elected in his place at the party legislature party meeting which was held later. Assuring that he would strengthen the party, Reddy sought the cooperation of cadres in pursuing BJP's agenda on one hand and keeping ties with ally TDP in tact.
Union Minister Bandaru Dattatreya was appointed as chief of the election management and campaign committee which would be dealing with TDP for seat adjustment and joint campaigning.
