Leeds, July 08: A hole-in-one helped Steve Bottomley progress to the 36-hole final qualifying tournament for next week's Open Championship at Royal St George's. Bottomley hit the headlines in 1995 when he took third place in The Open at St Andrews, missing out on a play-off with John Daly and Constantino Rocca by one shot. He found the cup from the tee during regional qualifying at Alwoodley in Leeds on Monday. Another ex-European Tour regular Mark Davis dramatically holed a chip at the second play-off hole to come through at Hadley Wood.
But former football star Roy Wegerle failed to achieve his Open goal.

James Conteh, son of former world boxing champion John, was in the same play-off as Davis after also scoring a one-under-par 71.
