Women`s Car Rally gets record number of entries
Chennai, June 13: A record number of 100 motorsport enthusiasts would be seen in action at the annual Dutchess Club Women`s Car Rally to be held here on June 22.
Chennai, June 13: A record number of 100 motorsport enthusiasts would be seen in action at the annual Dutchess Club Women's Car Rally to be held here on June 22.
Ravi Krishnan, clerk of the course, told a press conference here yesterday that he was thrilled by the reponse for the rally which is the only one of its kind for women in the country.
He said cars will follow a route given in the 'tulip chart' and the speed would be restricted, the maximum being 48 kmphs.
"The whole exercise is to make the drivers adhere to a given average speed over an undisclosed route and the navigator would complete the questionnaire enroute the rally," he said.
The event is sponsored by the ABN AMRO Bank and the Indian Oil Corporation and the maximum number of persons (only ladies) in the car would be four. Any type of car could be used in the rally, he added.
Nina Reddy, chairman of the Dutchess Club said "The club started last year with just five women, has grown in strength now and apart from helping the socieity and the downtrodden in different ways, the club holds this annual open event for all women folk in the state".
She said apart from teams from the host club, others are classified as experts (one who has already won a rally in India regular (one who had participated in the event last year) and novice (debutants). The event would be held under the agies of the Madras Motor Sports Club, pioneers in the sport and oldest club for motor sport in the country, she said.
