New Delhi, Dec 04: Vijay Kumar is eyeing the 700,000 dollars Omega Hong Kong Open, to secure his card on the Asian PGA tour's 2004 season.
The Asian and European tour joint-sanctioned tournament which commences at the Hong Kong club, Fanling today is the penultimate event on the Asian PGA tour's 2003 calendar as also the opening event on the European PGA tour's 2004 season.
Vijay Kumar, currently ranked 87th on the APGA Order of Merit, needs to climb 27 spots to finish in bracket that guarantees him a card for the new season.
The top 60 golfers on the Order of Merit for each season earn a direct entiry into the events of the following season. Vijay, who won the Indian Open in March 2002, earned a two-year exemption onto the Asian circut but his exemption runs out in March 2004.
This season, Vijay in six starts has made three cuts, all of them in November 2003. Vijay's good form started with the Hero Honda Masters at the Delhi Golf club in first week November, where he finished tied-18th.



Thereafter, he returned a tied-20th effort at the Volvo China Open followed by another 20th place finish at the Acer Taiwan Open. His efforts in November have seen him tally 12,995 dollars in prize money earnings on the Asian PGA tour.



Other than Vijay, there will be the likes of Amandeep Johl, Arjun Singh and Harmeet Kahlon completing the Indian challenge of the tournament. Johl and Arjun at 14th and 19th positions on the Order of Merit are pretty much certain to retain their cards while Kahlon at 57th position is on the bubble and his performance this week could decide his fate for the new season.
