Four get lifer in human sacrifice case
Kendrapada, Orissa, Mar 10: Four people have been sentenced to life imprisonment by a local court for committing human sacrifice of a five-year-old on the advice of a sorcerer.

of a five-year-old on the advice of a sorcerer.
Kendrapara Additional District and Sessions Judge Srikant Nayak sentenced the four accused to life on Monday last, while holding them guilty of murdering the child on December 5, 2001, at Khadianta village in the district.
The convicted were Rasabihari Moharana (40), a native of KhamarSahi, Kartika Chandra Thatoi(62) of Gobindapur, Gobardhan Sutar(58) and Nityananda Sutar(50) from Khadianta village.
According to prosecution, a local sorcerer had instructed Kartika Charan Thatoi to perform human sacrifice during `Asthaprahari Puja` to be organised by him to the cure his ailing son. For this Kartika sought help from his friends to arrange for a child to perform the human sacrifice, who kidnapped one Sonu Sahani(5) of Khadianta village on December, 5, 2001 while he was playing near the Puja mandap and killed him near the village river. Later they brought the nail and blood of the child to the Puja mandap and offered to the deity.
The District and Sessions Judge, however, acquitted one Ramamani Sutar(51), wife of Gobardhan Sutar, in the case due to lack of evidence. Bureau Report
