Addressing media persons after a four-day visit to the headquarters of Tibetan government in exile with eleven member group which included four Swiss MPs, Fehr said Swiss people believed that self-rule for Tibet was the only peaceful way to resolve Tibetan issue.
Recounting their relation with the exiled Tibetans since 1959 when a group came to their country, the MPs said today more than 2500 Tibetans are living in Switzerland and Swiss people understand their problems.
Fehr said that the Swiss Parliamentary Group for Tibet will continue to work for sustained dialogue between the Chinese government and Tibetan government in exile led by the Dalai Lama. To achieve this, he said on going Swiss-Chinese diplomatic channels will be used so that China goes for a meaningful dialogue on Tibet as the time had come for such talks.
He said pressure will also be maintained on China to grant self-rule to Tibet and in case no solution was found, the Swiss government would be asked to grant recognition to Tibetan government in exile after three years. Bureau Report
