New Delhi, Nov 30: European Commission president Romano Prodi yesterday suggested a common approach among Saarc countries to infrastructural and energy challenges faced by the grouping for achieving the ultimate goal of peace and stability in the region.
''If the achievements of South Asia's regional integration have been less impressive so far, why not consider alternative routes to reach the same goals. If the trade creation effects in the region are relatively limited, could a common approach to the infrastructural and energy challenges faced by your countries not provide a new impetus to the Saarc,'' Prodi said in an address at the FICCI here this evening.
In a brief interaction with the media after the seminar, he described outsourcing as a form of trade which could not be distinguished from other trade. It (outsourcing) had to be thought about in the long run.
''Outsourcing is a trade. Why treat that differently. I can't distinguish outsourcing from any other trade. We are worried but we must live with it. In the long run, why not think about it,'' he added.
