New Delhi, Sept 13: A crucial meeting of the electoral strategy committee of the Congress party will be held today to finalise criteria for the selection of candidates for the state assemblies going to polls later this year. The committee headed by senior party leader Manmohan Singh would take stock of the political situation in the five states in the light of reports submitted by party observers and state units. The committee, which has already interacted with the concerned chief ministers and PCC presidents, is also expected to deliberate on the issues to be taken up during the poll campaign as also in the election manifestoes. AICC has hinted that MLAs whose performance was below the expectations could be denied tickets. It was also of the view to more representation to youth, women, minorities and weaker sections of the society.
AICC has already made it known that Gandhi would undertake a massive exercise of mass contact all over the country in the next two months including in the states witnessing assembly elections later this year. Bureau Report
