Police procures voice sample of Abu Salem
New Delhi, July 02: In a breakthrough that would help in cracking Abu Salem`s crime syndicate in the capital, police today claimed they have succeeded in procuring the voice sample of the Dubai-based underworld don.

This was disclosed by police in the special court of Prem Kumar while seeking extension of judicial custody of Salem's five associates, who were arrested here in may for allegedly threatening and demanding Rs five crore as extortion from a Delhi-based businessman. "During investigation, an audio-cassette containing established voice of the underworld don Abu Salem has been collected from anti-extortion cell, crime branch, Mumbai and the same along with other exhibits has been deposited with the central forensic science laboratory," special cell of Delhi police told the court. Police said verifications were to be made about the MTNL landline numbers which appeared in printouts of mobile phones seized from the accused and their places of installation.
The court extended the judicial custody of five accused -- Sajjan Soni alias Babu Bhai, Pawan Mittal alias Raja Bhai, Majid Khan alias Raju Bhai, Mohammed Ashraff alias Babloo and Chanchal Mehta -- till July 29. All the accused were booked under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crimes Act (MCOCA).
Soni and Mittal were the first to be arrested on May 6 followed by Khan and Ashraff. Salem's woman associate Chanchal Mehta was arrested on May 18.
