Kolkata, June 11: Bengal cricket coach Sambaran Banerjee today resigned from his post, Cricket Association of Bengal secretary Bablu Kolay said here.
"He has given a letter to cab president Jagmohan Dalmiya requesting that he be relieved of his duties," Kolay said.
Banerjee, who took over the reins of Bengal last year, had expressed his desire some days back to relinquish the post amidst speculation that the cab was looking for an outstation coach to shore up the fortunes of the Bengal team, which had performed dismally last year.
Banerjee had said that he wanted to give more time to the boys in his coaching academy, and hence was not in a position to continue as Bengal coach.
