Islamabad, Feb 28: Pakistan, a non-permanent member of UN Security Council, has not yet decided its stand on the second UN resolution on Iraq sponsored by US, UK and Spain.
Denying US media reports that Islamabad had agreed to support the second resolution, which says that Iraq has missed the "final oppoortunity" to disarm, Pakistan foreign office spokesman Tariq Osman Hyder told a briefing today that no such decision has been taken.
"This is not correct. No decision has been taken in this regard," Hyder clarified. He said Pakistan has not given any such signal to us during the current visit of US Assistant Secretary to South Asia, Christina Rocca.
Coinciding with Rocca's visit, Hyder confirmed the visit of a three-member Iraqi delegation here, which handed over a letter from Iraqi President Saddam Hussein to Musharraf seeking his support.
The spokesman further said there was no pressure from US and that it was natural for an country to canvas for support. Pakistan believed that Iraq should comply with all UN resolutions and at the same time issues relating to safety and security of the Iraqi people should be addressed, he said.
