Mumbai, Nov 27: A special court will hear plea of suspended Joint Commissioner of Police Sridhar Vagal seeking class one facilities in jail.
Mumbai, Nov 27: A special court will hear plea of suspended Joint Commissioner of Police Sridhar Vagal seeking class one facilities in jail.
Vagal was arrested on November 7 in Mumbai for his alleged complicity in the scam and suspected links with prime accused Abdul Karim Telgi. Vagal has pleaded before a court in Pune that he may be allowed to make a statement before a magistrate under Section 164 of Cr.Pc as he wishes to divulge the truth with regard to the case and his alleged involvement but prayed that it may not be treated as his confession.
Public prosecutors Raja Thakre has opposed his plea saying that an accused can only make a confession under Section 164 of Cr.Pc and not a statement. Vagal has also pleaded that two weapons, an air gun and .22 bore pistol, seized from his house belonged to his wife, Audrey. She held valid licences to possess weapons and hence they may be returned to her. Other weapons seized were his licenced revolver, a shot gun and 256 bullets.
The prosecutor, however, opposed his plea saying the weapons were of foreign make and SIT would like to find out the source of purchase of these weapons. As SIT was busy in probe, it would take some time for them to verify the bonafides of ownership of the weapons, the court was told.
