New Delhi, Oct 29: Senior separatist Kashmiri leader
Shabir Ahmed Shah today welcomed the acquittal of two of the
accused in Parliament attack case by Delhi High Court and said
the verdict demonstrated "juristic proficiency" of noted
lawyer Ram Jethmalani.
Expressing his gratitude to Jethmalani for taking up the
case of suspended Delhi University lecturer S A R Geelani at
his behest, he said "but for his (Jethmalani's) efforts,
Geelani would have been sentenced to death.
"The verdict has shown how false cases are framed without any evidence," the leader of Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party told reporters over phone from Srinagar.
He said Jethmalani, also chairman of Kashmir Committee, had demonstrated "a lot of courage by taking up the case despite condemnation and attack by RSS activists."
"But he did not make any compromise," Shah said.
The High Court while upholding conviction of Mohd Afzal and Showkat Guru in the case, acquitted Geelani and Showkat's wife Afshan.
