New Delhi, June 24: Flaying the Samajwadi Party leaders for making "false statements on the number of MLAs supporting her government, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati today claimed that over two dozen "unsatisfied" MLAs of Mulayam Singh's party were ready to join the government.
"Samajwadi Party leaders including Singh have been indulging in political theatre and claiming that my government was in minority. More so after Rashtriya Lok Dal withdrew its support of 14 MLAs. But the fact is that over two dozen opposition MLAs who are not happy with their party are ready to join the government," she told reporters here.
"BSP does not believe in dividing any party and as it is we are in majority. Therefore, when and if required, the help of these MLAs will sought," she said.
Claiming that BSP's mass base was on rise in the state, the chief minister said: "People's verdict in the bypolls in Chiraigaon where BSP candidate defeated SP candidate was clear proof of our popularity and decline in the mass base for SP."
Asked about the controversy over "illegal" construction near Taj in Agra, she said the state government has already ordered an inquiry into the matter and further steps would be taken once the investigations were complete.
Mayawati also criticised the Punjab chief minister for not allowing her to visit Dalits in Talhan district, which was recently hit by the violence between two communities.
Stating that she has been visiting parts of the western UP, Mayawati, however, refused to reveal the measures and decisions taken including transfer of senior officials during her visits.
