Russia is to evacuate more than 100 of its nationals including families of its diplomatic staff based in Islamabad and Karachi in view of the sharp deterioration of the situation in Pakistan and adjoining region, the foreign ministry said. Foreign Ministry Spokesman Alexander Yakovenko said that Moscow is sending a special plane to Islamabad today to bring them back.
Russian citizens permanently residing in Pakistan and willing to leave the country would also be evacuated, he added. Due to fears of unrest linked to possible US strikes on terrorist bases in Afghanistan, a number of western nations have pulled out families of their diplomatic staff based in Pakistan. Bureau Report
