Jalandhar, Sept 03: Indian hockey hero Jugraj Singh has been injured in a road accident late last night. Singh suffered multiple fractures in his hands and legs. He has been admitted to Dayanand Hospital in Ludhiana. According to Dr Raju Singh Cheena, medical superintendent, Jugraj has lost quite a lot of blood and is being operated upon. "He will be given blood transfusion during the operation, which is likely to last for three to four hours," said Dr Cheena. When asked about how serious was his condition, the doctor said Jugraj`s condition can be gauged only after the operation is over. However, Jugraj, who has been a key player for India in the last few international tournaments, will be out of action for at least three months.
The accident happened when the car, in which Jugraj was travelling, hit an electricity post.
Jugraj`s teammate and ace hockey player Gagan Ajit Singh said he learnt about the accident this morning and said he was rushing to the hospital.
"I have learnt that he has suffered serious injuries on his elbow, on the thigh and bruises elsewhere," Gagan said. Bureau Report
