Bhopal, Dec 14: A bill for providing 27 per cent reservation to Other Backward Classes (OBCs) is being sent to the Centre by the Madhya Pradesh government.
At present, 14 per cent reservation is available to the members of OBC in government jobs. To increase it to 27 per cent, the Central Government would be required to amend the Constitution for relaxing the 50 per cent maximum limit of reservation.
A number of significant measures have been taken for the betterment of backward classes during last nine years in the state, an official release said here today.
Income limit fixed for the creamy layer has been increased from Rs one to two lakh annually and five years age relaxation has been given to OBC candidates in direct recruitment, it said.
Restriction of a family's annual income limit of Rs 12,000 for state scholarship has been abolished. All such students whose parents do not come under the purview of income tax limit or have less than 10 acre land are eligible for the scholarship.
In all, 27 per cent seats in general hostels of medical education, Indian systems of medicines and homoeopathy have been reserved for the OBC candidates. The same has been done in the hostels of agriculture and manpower planning departments, it said. Ten per cent of shops constructed by the municipalities or municipal corporations have also been reserved for the people belonging to OBC, the release added.
