Patrolling intensified in Palk Straits
Ramanathapuram, June 15: The coastguard and navy today intensified patrolling the Palk Straits following the sinking of a Tamil Tiger ship, killing 12 crew members after a clash with Lankan navy off the island`s northeastern coast.

Official sources said Uchipuli naval base would monitor
the Palk Straits through their radar.
Hovercraft, helicopters, Vajra rescue ship and planes would closely monitor the coastal area to prevent any fight between the Sri Lankan navy and LTTE militants having cascading effect in Indian seas, following the sinking of the rebels' ship yesterday, they said.
