Guwahati, June 20: The Bodo, Ulfa and Garo militants are entering Assam to strike terror with specific targets like Bodo moderate leaders and minority communities, official sources said today.
At least three such attempts had been neutralised in the past 24 hours in different parts of lower Assam, army sources said. Two of the attempts were made by the Bodo ultras while the third one was jointly by the Ulfa and Garo militants. This was for the first time army formally acknowledged simultaneous attempt by major outfits to enter Assam and strike terror. Two of the attempts were made from northern side of Bhutan while the third one came from south through Garo hills. Based on specific information about the move of four National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) militants from a camp across the border to target ABSU leaders and BLT cadres who were residing near Patgaon, the troops of red horns division deployed in Kokrajhar district laid an ambush on Longa Nala, five km north of Patgaon, yesterday. At about 5:30 AM some armed NDFB militants were ready for an ambush but on being challenged the ultras lobbed grenade and opened fire. While the army retaliated two NDFB gunmen were killed and the others fled.

After a search operation, the troops recovered two AK 56 rifles with magazines and some live rounds of AK 56, few fired cases and two Chinese made grenades. The dead NDFB militants and the arms were handed over to the police station at Sarfanguri.
