New Delhi, July 08: A Delhi court today further extended the judicial remand of Iftikhar Geelani, son-in-law of fire brand Jamaat-e-Islami leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani, till July 12 in connection with the alleged violation of Official Secrets Act. Remanding Geelani to four more days of judicial custody, chief metropolitan magistrate Sangeeta Dhingra Sehgal also allowed the application seeking custody of "some video compact discs (VCD) and computer floppies" seized during search from his residence on June 9. The court directed the police to make copies of the said VCDs and floppies on July 11 in the presence of Geelani's counsel V K Ohri. The investigating officer had submitted before the court that the VCDs and floppies were of no importance to the income tax authorities but could help the police in its probe.

Defence counsel Ohri today concluded his arguments on Geelani's plea seeking fresh direction for evaluation of the documents seized from his residence as the opinion expressed by military intelligence about them being "classified" was totally "baseless". The court would give its verdict on this point on July 12. The proceedings were held in-camera.

Geelani was arrested on June 9 under Official Secrets Act as the police alleged that certain classified documents were recovered from his possession.
