Tangmarg (Kashmir), Aug 24: India and Pakistan should resolve the Kashmir issue at the earliest through peaceful negotiations so that Jammu and Kashmir's full economic potential could be harnessed, People's Democratic Party (PDP) minister Ghulam Hassan Mir, has said.
"Both countries should resolve the Kashmir issue through
peaceful negotiations thereby paving way for harnessing the
enormous potential available in different sectors like power,
tourism and other allied sectors," Mir said.
"People of Jammu and Kashmir have suffered a lot over the past over 50 years for no fault of theirs'," Mir said addressing a public rally here, his home constituency.
Mir, who is Minister for Tourism, Housing and Urban Development, said discernable headway has been achieved for lasting peace in the strife-torn state and sought active cooperation of people in restoring complete peace and normalcy which was imperative for the overall development.
The Minister said the government is trying it's level best to mitigate the suffering of the people and to provide them all basic amenities of life like safe drinking water, health care, upgradation of schools of different levels and better road connectivity in remote areas of the state within the available resources.
Government has no magic stick to redress grievances of the people overnight and it will take some time but every penny will be spend for the welfare of the people, he said.
The present government has devised a mechanism for the execution of development works. These works have been publicized through print media for mobilizing public opinion with regard to their priority, Mir said. Bureau Report
