Hyderabad, June 22: A woman Naxalite was killed in an encounter with police at Nallamalla forest area near Ghanpur in Mahabubnagar district of Andhra Pradesh. On a tip-off that some PWG Naxals of Achampet Guerilla Army were holding a meeting with local leaders of BJP and TDP last night, a special police party while combing the area spotted a woman on sentry duty in the forest, Mahabubnagar police said over phone here today.

On seeing the police, the woman raised an alarm to alert her colleagues and opened fire which was retaliated by police. In the firing, the woman Naxal, N Shamala alias Shoba, died, police said.

After hearing the firing, the other Naxals managed to escape under the cover of darkness leaving behind some local leaders belonging to BJP and the ruling party.

In the meeting, the ultras were believed to have demanded that local leaders, including Mandal Praja Parishad president Tulsiram, resign from their respective parties as they had allegedly failed to work upto the expectation of the villagers.

The police also recovered a 12 bore gun and some kit bags from the scene.
