Tiloi(Uttar Pradesh), Aug 24: Tiloi, a small township in central Uttar Pradesh, is all set to play host to President of Guyana Bharat Jagdev, who is coming to visit his ancestral home in Thakurian Ka Purva village here today.
And those awaiting the high-profile guest are the President`s 227 relatives spread across 24 families who have decided to gift him a piece of land in the village which they claim is his family`s share.
``He is free to take along what the land has to offer,`` said Raja Ram, the 90-year-old `grandfather` of Mr Jagdev.
Raja Ram claims that the VVIP guest`s family -- led by his grandmother -- had left the village in 1912 when cholera had struck the area. He claims that Jagdev`s father was a professional land-digger and belonged to the backward Lonia community. The family reportedly migrated to Guyana in 1918 as contract labourers.
Meanwhile, the Thakurian Ka Purwa village in the recently created Chattrapati Sahuji Maharaj Nagar district is getting a facelift for the presidential visit. Muddy roads are being spruced up and the power department has arranged for a 12-hour constant electricity supply beginning tomorrow morning to please Mr Jagdev.
Recently the Guyana President had expressed his desire to track down his relatives in the UP village, BJP legislator from Tiloi Mayankashwar Sharan Singh said and added the district administration checked old records to help him in his `mission.` Mr Jagdev, along with a delegation of about 40 persons including his legal affairs minister Dutnath Singh, foreign trade minister Clement Tohi and Culture minister Gail Taxeria, would reach the state capital today afternoon. Later, the VVIP delegation would fly by a helicopter to Fursatganj near here. He is expected to reach his village at around 1500 hrs after travelling for 17 km by road.
After spending an hour, he would return.
Tiloi forms part of the Amethi Lok Sabha constituency represented by Congress President Ms Sonia Gandhi.
