New Delhi, Nov 10: Welcoming the Supreme Court stay on the arrest of six journalists of 'The Hindu' and 'Murasoli' dailies, the Editors Guild of India today demanded immediate codification of the privileges of MPs and MLAs and rescinding of the Tamil Nadu Assembly resolution sentencing the scribes.
At an emergency meeting of the guild executive, chaired
by its president Hari Jaisingh, a resolution was adopted in
which it was decided that the guild would plead itself in
the case in the Supreme Court.
"It is of utmost importance to codify the privileges of legislators in view of the fact that the vagueness of these privileges represent a danger to media," the resolution said.
Apart from rescinding of the Assembly resolution, the guild also demanded revocation of the arrest warrants issued by the Speaker and the decision to suspend passes of the journalists of the two dailies for 15 days. Bureau Report
