Kathmandu, July 02: Maoist rebels have agreed to hold informal talks with the Nepalese government to sort out differences and prepare the ground for the third round of dialogue. They have, however demanded a stoppage of active mobilisation of security forces and in return promised to put an end to activities such as extortion, abduction and carrying weapons.
The Nepalese government and the Maoist talks team yesterday decided to hold informal talks in a day or two prior to sitting for the third round of dialogue, Padmaratna Tuladhar, a human rights activist and one of the talks facilitator, said. The government is serious about the dialogue and the third round of talks will be held soon, Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Thapa said. However, he did not specify the date for next round of talks.
The decision was made during a meeting between government's talks coordinator and Minister for Information and Communication Kamal Thapa and Maoist negotiators ram Bahadur Thapa and Krishna Bahadur Mahara. On the government's request, the Maoists have agreed to review their demand for restricting the Army movement within 5 kilometer of the barrack, Tuladhar said.
