look into the cases of Jammu and Kashmir detenues, today decided to
recommend revocation of the Public Safety Act (PSA) against 34
detenues, a Home Ministry spokesman said.
The decision comes in the wake of the ''path-breaking'' meeting
between Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani and the Hurriyat leaders
here on January 22.
Consequent to the decision, the state government has been asked
to submit further cases of PSA detenues for consideration of the
Joint Screening Committee.
The spokesman said that pursuant to the discussions between the
Hurriyat leaders and the deputy prime minister, the joint screening
committee reviewed the cases of a number of detenues under the Jammu
and Kashmir PSA.
The Deputy Prime Minister had assured the Hurriyat leaders that a rapid review would be undertaken to examine the cases of those held in detention.
