New Delhi, July 25: CBI has arrested four persons on charges of murdering reader in Aligarh Muslim University I G Khan in February this year, an incident which sparked off protests in the communally-sensitive town. CBI spokesman claimed Pratap Kumar Singh, Lalit Kumar Singh and Ghambir Singh had reportedly confessed on the murder of Khan. The trio told their investigators they were looking for a car to be used for kidnapping and khan was the victim, the spokesman said. Khan was murdered on February 14 this year. He was found dead in Akbarabad village with two gun shots in his head. The victim had gone missing after dropping his wife, Zulfia Khan, at J N Medical College. During investigations, the CBI first located the car from Harinder Singh of Aligarh, whose interrogation led the agency to the three killers. He was later let off.

The killing of Khan, a historian, had sparked off violent protests by teachers of AMU and others. AMU teachers went on a strike on February 24 which was called off only after an assurance the case would be handed over to the CBI.
