Patna, May 26: After initially protests against the Election Commission's recommendation of Ajit Joy as a new superintendent of police of Saran (Chapra), the state government today bowed down to the EC and ordered appointment of Joy replacing Ganesh Kumar Yadav who was shifted on the order of the EC for alleged irregularities in the April 26 poll in Chapra. Official sources said here that after replacing Ganesh Kumar Yadav, the state government had sent a panel of three names - Shobha Ahotkar (SP, Special Branch), A K Ambedkar (SP, Bhojpur) and Shoib Khan (SP, Lakhisarai) - but the EC approved the name of joy outside the panel.
The state government wrote a protest letter to the EC objecting to its recommending a name outside the panel, but the EC stuck to its decision and asked the Bihar government to appoint Joy.
The choice of a new SP of Saran (Chapra) in view of the repoll in Chapra on May 31 had become a bone of contention between the state government and the EC.
The repoll in Chapra is scheduled for May 31 and the fight is taking place mainly between the RJD chief, Laloo Prasad Yadav, and former Civil Aviation Minister Rajiv Pratap Rudy.
The state government had appointed A K Verma as the DIG, Saran Range, replacing Ganesh Yadav.
